MISSION STATEMENT

The mission of the Burnham Police Department is to maintain order, preserve and protect the life, peace and property of the citizens of the Village of Burnham and to enforce the laws within the requirements of the United States Constitution. The police department and the individual members will without favor or prejudice work cooperatively with the public to provide a safe community and strive to enhance the quality of life for all citizens

The employees of the police department pledge collectively and individually to constantly grow, develop and engage in reassessment to meet the current and future challenges of our community. The Burnham Police Department exists to meet the village’s objectives for the safety and well being of the residents. This mission is accomplished through people and knowledge our most important resource. In the continuing pursuit of total quality we are guided by the following values:

BEAT MEETINGS

The police department holds a monthly community meeting and encourages residents to attend to learn about various topics that are presented each month such as crime prevention, identity theft and many other related topics. In addition residents are advised on what has occurred in their neighborhoods and what to be on the alert for. Meetings are held on the third Thursday of every month and the meetings are held at the village hall, the community center and the senior center on an alternating schedule. Residents are encouraged to attend the meetings and to get to know your police officers.

VEHICLE STICKERS

Vehicle stickers may be purchased at the village hall and are due for placement on vehicles every July 1st. The village ordinance pertaining to village vehicle stickers is as follows:

ANIMALS

It shall be unlawful for any animal to be in any public area of the village without being on a leash.

VEHICLES

It shall be unlawful for any vehicle to be on any street of the village without proper and current state license plates, without a current village sticker and to be in a state of disrepair or abandoned. An abandoned vehicle means a vehicle parked or otherwise located on any street, alley, highway or roadway and the vehicle is in such a state of disrepair that it is incapable of being driven.

ADJUDICATION COURT

Local ordinance citations adjudication court is held the third Wednesday of each month at the village hall board room at 7:00 p. m. Local ordinance citations may be contested during the adjudication court. Citation fines may be paid at the village hall clerk’s office during normal business hours.
